The Benefits of Full-Arch Implant Restorations

Long-Lasting Results

Compared to traditional dentures, full-arch implant restorations have a much longer lifespan. Dental implants are a truly permanent solution for tooth loss. If you care for your mouth properly, your dental implants can easily last 30+ years, and may even last for the rest of your life.

Better Oral Health

Unlike dentures, full-arch implant restorations help protect your jaw bone and your appearance. Over time, tooth loss can cause your appearance to look “sunken,” since your jaw bone will begin to weaken. Dentures can’t stop this from happening, but full-arch implant restorations can. Your dental implant will stimulate and protect your bone, and help preserve both your oral health and your appearance.

Improved Fit, Comfort, And Functionality

Even the best dentures sometimes shift, move, or slip. This can make it harder to eat, chew, smile, and speak confidently. But this isn’t the case with full-arch implant restorations. They're fixed to dental implants that won’t ever move or shift. That means you can enjoy a better fit, more natural appearance, and improved performance compared to traditional dentures.

The Full-Arch Implant Restoration Process

Extractions & Implant Placement

First, you’ll need to see an oral surgeon to have any remaining teeth extracted, and to have your dental implants placed. Full-arch implant restorations typically use a series of 4-6 implants, which are surgically implanted into the upper, lower, or both rows of teeth.

Healing & Building Your Restoration

Once your implants are placed, you’ll be sent home with a set of temporary implant supported dentures. The initial healing process just takes a couple of weeks, but it will take up to 3-6 months for your implants to fully heal and bond with your jaw bone. During this time, you’ll come to our office for some follow-ups, and your Long Beach dentist will start building your permanent restoration.

Permanent Implant Restoration Placement

Once your mouth is fully healed and your implant supported dentures have arrived at our office, you’ll come back for one last appointment. Your dentist will check the fit of your new dentures, then attach them to your implants. Depending on the type of implants, your dentures may be fixed in place permanently, or they may be removable. Once they're in place, you’ll get some instructions on how to care for your new teeth, then you’ll go home with a brand-new smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Check out these frequently asked questions, or call us to speak with our team.

Am I a good candidate for a full-arch implant restoration?

Full-arch implant rehabilitation can be an excellent option for patients who have lost all or most of their natural teeth due to gum disease, tooth decay, or dental trauma. However, it is important to note that your mouth and jaw must be in relatively good health, with adequate bone density for successful treatment. Get in touch with your dentist today to schedule a consultation and find out if full-arch implants are the right choice for you.

Do full-arch dental implants look and feel like natural teeth?

Yes! Made of durable, high-quality materials, one of the biggest advantages of full-arch implant restorations is that they look and feel just like the real thing. Full-arch implant restorations allow you to speak, laugh, and smile with confidence, and enjoy all of your favorite foods without any specialized care or maintenance. By staying on top of your oral hygiene habits, you can prolong the look, feel, and function of your restoration for years to come.

How long do full-arch dental implants last?

It is important to note that a full-arch implant restoration consists of the placement of two separate elements: the implants themselves and the implant-supported denture. While the dental implants can last a lifetime for most patients, the denture may wear down over time due to regular forces like chewing and speaking. Most patients can expect their prosthetic to last 20 or more years before needing to be replaced.

How do I take care of my full-arch implant restoration?

Although your new smile won’t be susceptible to cavities or other forms of decay, it is still vital that you follow good oral hygiene practices to avoid developing gum disease. We recommend using a water flosser in addition to brushing your teeth.

Can full-arch implant restorations be done in one day?

In some cases, yes. Depending on the state of your oral health, and how much preparation is required, some patients will be able to receive a brand new smile in just one visit. However, in more complex cases, additional healing time may be required in between surgeries to ensure successful treatment.
